Wood Panels Industries - Waste Fuel Heated Oil Coil Furnace
Introduction:
This furnace is fired by waste sawdust with glues. Flash
heating is recorded at up to 1800° C in lower areas.
Problem: Cracking of the lower coils causing loss
of heating oil into the furnace and consequent weekly downtime
for repairs.
Solution: The furnace was blast cleaned to isolate
the problem areas and in the worst damaged areas, pockets
were cut out and new tube welded in place. After a specific
surface was achieved with blasted Aluminium Oxide, an Arcsprayed
bond coating of Ni-Al was followed by a 200 µm Ni-Cr-Fe
coating with a top coat of 70 µm Aluminium was applied.
Results: Only three repairs have been made since the
arcsprayed coatings were applied in July 1995 - reducing downtime
considerably and saving heating oil with no loss of efficiency
in the furnace.
